Historical marker, main Cumberland cemetery

This sign tells about the Cumberland "white" graveyard's most famous resident. It's difficult to realize now how bitter was the struggle to organize labour a hundred years ago. Ginger Goodwin was martyred by the government that drafted him into the army despite his original exemption for poor health, and the police who hunted him down and killed him when he refused to report for duty.
