The old mining town of Cumberland has three graveyards: one for Chinese (who formed a large community), one for Japanese, and -- now divided from the town by Highway 19 -- one for everyone else. Because the Chinese customarily exhumed the bones after seven years to be sent back to China, there's not much to be seen in the Chinese cemetery. The adjoining Japanese cemetery became very dilapidated over the years, and eventually the surviving markers were gathered together.
