These pilings support a beacon at the mouth of Comox Harbour. It's rare to get a daylight tide low enough to make it possible to walk out there. The dense crowds of mussels are covered by equally dense colonies of tiny barnacles.
That's Mount Washington in the distance. Every April there is a "Snow to Surf" relay race from the ski resort to Comox Lake, from the lake to the highway, and finally from Courtenay to the Comox marina not far from where this picture was taken. It involves Alpine and Nordic skiing, running, kayaking, mountain and road biking, and finally canoeing.
