The beach

The early spring marks the reappearance of the flats. We have a mixed semidiurnal tide, meaning that there is one really low tide per day, and one not so low. During the winter, the really low one only occurs during hours of darkness.

It's about two miles to the opposite shore, and when the tide is at its lowest you can walk almost all the way across, to the channel cut by the Courtenay River.
